October Studies | Night Section Art Card · Study 06
$6.99
A compact architectural study of section, inhabitation, fragmentation, and nocturnal space.

06 · Night Section treats architecture as something simultaneously inhabited, documented, and exposed. Stairs, openings, walls, and fragmented vertical spaces assemble like an impossible building section beneath an oxidized orange moon. A solitary figure provides scale while parts of the structure dissolve into darkness, leaving the boundary between architectural drawing and imagined place deliberately unresolved.

October Studies is a six-piece architectural art series from Cole Design Works exploring mass, shadow, material, scale, and atmosphere at the darker edge of architectural composition.

Rather than relying on conventional Halloween imagery, each study interprets October through monumental geometry, restrained color, texture, light, and spatial tension.

Each work stands independently while forming part of a connected six-study sequence.

4 × 6 Art Card

The compact format turns Night Section into a collectible architectural object suited to desks, shelves, small frames, display stands, or a complete six-card October Studies arrangement.

Its combination of strong silhouette, orange geometry, sectional detail, and human scale remains visually legible at the smaller format while rewarding close inspection.

October Studies | Night Section Poster · Study 06
$19.99
An impossible architectural section suspended between drawing, ruin, and inhabited space.

06 · Night Section closes October Studies by exposing architecture rather than simply presenting it.

Walls, stairs, voids, and vertical chambers stack into a sectional composition that feels both constructed and archaeological. A solitary figure establishes scale within the lower architecture, while a weathered orange disk hangs beyond the structure like a moon, datum, or graphic annotation.

Along the right edge, material begins to fragment and disappear.

The resulting image sits between architectural representation and imagined environment: part section drawing, part monument, part ruin.

October Studies 06 // Night Section

Architects cut buildings apart to understand them.

A section reveals relationships that cannot be seen from the exterior.

Floors.

Stairs.

Openings.

Void.

Structure.

Occupation.

For the final October Study, I wanted that analytical drawing convention to become a place.

Night Section

Study 06 assembles multiple architectural conditions into one vertical composition.

A stair descends through the lower portion.

Openings penetrate massive walls.

An arched chamber rises above.

A solitary figure provides scale.

Instead of behaving like a conventional building, however, these elements stack together with the logic of a sectional drawing.

The architecture has been opened.

Drawing Becomes Space

Architectural sections normally exist to explain.

Night Section deliberately refuses to do that completely.

Some spaces appear inhabitable.

Others terminate unexpectedly.

Walls become fragments.

Edges dissolve.

The distinction between solid material and black void becomes uncertain.

The drawing explains enough to suggest architecture without ever becoming a completely rational building.

The Return of Orange

A large oxidized orange disk sits outside the architecture.

Throughout October Studies, orange has changed roles.

It began as illuminated space in Threshold.

It became a narrow fissure in Concrete Moon.

It broke through the grid in Dead Grid.

It persisted as residual illumination in Residual Light.

It became a distant point in Obscura.

In Night Section, it returns as a complete form.

The sequence ends with the light no longer trapped inside the architecture.

Artist Statement

I wanted the final piece to contain traces of the entire series.

There is passage.

Mass.

Grid.

Erosion.

Depth.

And finally section.

The architecture is more explicit here, but it is also less complete. Parts remain solid while others disappear.

The figure makes the structure feel inhabitable, while the sectional composition keeps reminding us that we are looking at a representation.

That tension felt like the right place to end October Studies.

The Complete Sequence

01 Threshold — Passage
02 Concrete Moon — Mass
03 Dead Grid — System
04 Residual Light — Erosion
05 Obscura — Depth
06 Night Section — Section

Six works.

Six architectural conditions.

One October.
